Security guards are often seen, but their work is rarely fully understood. To many, they’re just standing near entrances, patrolling sites, or checking credentials—but what happens behind the scenes is far more complex and crucial than most realize.

At Squadrans Security Services, our guards are the first line of defense for clients across industries—from office buildings and retail spaces to events and construction sites. Here’s a closer look at what a typical day in their life really looks like.

6:30 AM – Pre-Shift Briefing and Equipment Check

Before the shift begins, guards arrive early for a handover briefing from the outgoing team. They’re updated on any incidents, new site-specific instructions, or changes in threat levels. Radios, body cams, flashlights, and mobile devices are checked for functionality. Preparation is key to performance.

7:00 AM – First Patrol Round

The morning starts with a perimeter patrol. Guards check doors, windows, gates, and blind spots for any signs of tampering or unauthorized access. They also inspect fire exits, CCTV systems, and lighting conditions. This isn’t just a walk—it’s a methodical inspection for vulnerabilities.

9:00 AM – Monitoring and Access Control

As employees or visitors arrive, the guard shifts focus to access control—checking IDs, logging entries, and watching for suspicious behavior. Guards must balance firmness with courtesy. They are ambassadors of both safety and customer service.

12:00 PM – Incident Reporting and Documentation

Any incident—no matter how small—is documented. Whether it’s a suspicious vehicle, unauthorized person, or equipment malfunction, everything goes into a detailed log. Guards may also conduct incident investigations or assist in reviewing CCTV footage with clients.

2:00 PM – Conflict Management and Emergency Readiness

Guards are trained to de-escalate confrontations and respond to emergencies like medical incidents, fire alarms, or intrusions. They must stay alert, calm, and professional—prepared to take control of fast-moving, high-stress situations at any moment.

4:00 PM – Evening Patrol and Checkpoints

As the day winds down, another full patrol is conducted. Guards verify that all visitors have signed out, equipment is secure, and entrances are locked. They also check lighting and prepare the site for after-hours conditions.

6:00 PM – End-of-Shift Report

At the end of the shift, guards hand over responsibilities to the incoming team and provide updates on any relevant incidents or observations. Reporting is done as needed, especially if there have been unusual activities, safety concerns, or client-specific requirements. This ensures smooth communication and continuity between shifts.
